Brewers, Twins, Loggers to be represented at MLB All-Star Game

Milwaukee sending four players; Ramirez, Gomez to start

After 70 days of voting, the ballots are in and counted for the 85th All-Star Game, July 15th at Target Field.

The Milwaukee Brewers, sporting the second-best record in baseball, will be well represented. The Brew Crew is sending four players to Minneapolis; two of them are starting.

Aramis Ramirez will become the first third baseman in Brewers history elected to start an All-Star Game. In addition, Carlos Gomez gets the start in the outfield. He has 13 home runs and 45 RBI in 80 games this season.

Jonathan Lucroy, as selected by his peers, will be a reserve catcher. (Yadier Molina of the Cardinals gets the start). It’s Lucroy’s first All-Star appearance. Finally, for the fifth time in his career, K-Rod is heading to the Midsummer Classic. The Brewers closer is tied for the Major League lead in saves (27).

Minnesota fans will be able to cheer on two of their own players: closer Glen Perkins and catcher Kurt Suzuki. Perkins, a Twin Cities native and former Golden Gopher, is third in the American League in saves (20). You might also remember WKBT’s story on his connection to Spring Grove native Todd Oakes.

Who would’ve guessed Minnesota would send a catcher to the All-Star game the year they move Joe Mauer to first base? Kurt Suzuki, who has 34 RBI, will make his first appearance.

Finally, the La Crosse Loggers will be represented by former pitcher Max Scherzer. The Detroit Tigers ace is making his second consecutive appearance (he started the All-Star game last year).

Former Loggers pitcher Chris Sale is one of five players that can still be voted in.
