Brian Swedberg announces run for Houston County sheriff

LA CRESCENT, Minn. (WKBT) — A La Crescent native who has worked in the Houston County Sheriff’s Office for 31 years now wants to be sheriff.

Brian Swedberg announced his candidacy Wednesday. He is the first to jump in the race after current Sheriff Mark Inglett indicated he would not seek another term.

Swedberg began as a dispatcher and jailer in the sheriff’s office before being promoted to patrol and civil lieutenant. Swedberg became chief deputy, second in command, in 2018 and received the Minnesota’s Director in Emergency Management certificate.

Swedberg says he’s seeking the position because he feels the sheriff’s office and residents would benefit from his experience and leadership. He also says he would promote accountability, transparency and be pro-active to all citizens of Houston County.

Houston County will choose a new sheriff on the Nov. 8 general election.
