Buffalo Co. woman drowns in Mississippi River
BUFFALO CITY, Wis. — Authorities find the body of a Buffalo County woman who drowned in the Mississippi River Wednesday.
Witnesses say 35-year-old Tammy Lorenz was walking in deep water at around 6:50 p.m. at the Belvidere landing, just north of Buffalo City, when she went under and did not resurface.
Rescue crews found Lorenz’ body at around 8:30 p.m. about 150 yards downstream from where she was last seen.
Lorenz was not wearing a life vest. Investigators say she may have either been swept underwater by a swift current, or lost her balanced after stepping off of a steep underwater ledge.
