Buffalo City garage fire blamed on varnishing near wood stove

BUFFALO CITY, Wis. (WKBT) – A fire that destroyed a detached garage and nearby camper in Buffalo City Tuesday resulted from varnishing in an unventilated area near a wood stove used to heat the garage, according to the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office.

The blaze was reported to the Buffalo County Communications Center at about 1:10 p.m., and the fire had engulfed the garage and spread to the camper by the time firefighters arrived at the site on South River Road. Crews from the Tri-Community and Fountain City fire departments fought the fire, but the garage was a total loss, according to the sheriff’s office.

Nobody was injured in the fire, the sheriff’s report said.
