Burke urges supporters to get back up after defeat

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke tells her supporters to not be discouraged by her defeat to Republican Gov. Scott Walker.

She says in her concession speech Tuesday night that “For many of us, it feels a little bit like getting knocked down.” But she says that Wisconsin is full of people and communities “that can take a hit but that never waiver in getting right back up.”

Burke says, “We’re going to dust ourselves off and we’re going to get right back up.”

She congratulated Walker on what Burke called a “hard-fought victory.”

Burke will remain a member of the Madison school board after the loss. This was her first campaign for statewide office.
