Businesses, United Way team up for Day of Caring

270 volunteers work in community

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Local businesses teamed up with the Great Rivers United Way for a day of giving back to the community Wednesday.

It was for the United Way Day of Caring event. 270 volunteers took part in several projects, including helping out at the Kane Street Garden in La Crosse.

They are part of the United Way Pacesetter program which are businesses that agree to start their fundraising campaigns early. The United way says the day brings people together, working towards a common goal.

“The amount of work that can get done when we all come together as one collective group, we’re going to put in 800 hours of volunteer hours today, and just imagine all the projects that will get done, we’ll have accomplished 21 projects by the end of the day today,” said Jamie Korn from the United Way.

The United Way is hoping to raise a little more than $2 million this year. That money will help serve 74 different programs in our community.
