Camp in La Crosse empowers girls to be the next generation of scientists
Empower Girls Camp at Deep Roots Community Farm
LA CROSSE, Wisc. (WKBT) — Empower Girls Camp takes place on the Deep Roots Community Farm in La Crosse and is hosted by GROW La Crosse.
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematic activities are led by professional biologists for girls in 4th through 12th grade. Each girl proposes and tests their own hypothesis to learn about life cycles on the farm.
Empower Girls Camp is sponsored by the Women’s Fund of Greater La Crosse and helps girls realize their potential.
“Research has shown that women are underrepresented in STEM fields,” said GROW LA Crosse Program Director, Anna Skemp. “Some of these biases and girls beginning to doubt their abilities start as early as ages 5 or 6. They’re capable it’s fun they can do it.”
