CapX2020 Transmission Lines cross the Mississippi River

Opponents of the line say there is enough energy in the area

Crews worked on a controversial power line that spans the Mississippi River Friday.

Construction crews were working on the CapX2020 Transmission Line near Alma Friday.

The project from Wisconsin to the Dakotas is supposed to bring an increased amount of reliable electricity though the area.

To get across the Mississippi the line has a structure on an island and another on a peninsula. Crews have to take a boat or barge to get the work sites.

On Friday they were working on installing the last stretch of foundation for the crossing.

“It’s been cold, been fighting with the ice, so we’re looking to get done here in the next couple of weeks. We’ll pour the last of the concrete this week,” said Zach Pontzer, of JF Brennan.

Opponents of the line say there is enough energy in the area and the potentially 70 foot power lines in some areas will block scenic views and hurt the eco system.
