Carson Bantle excited for transfer to Badgers
In continuing News 8 Now Sports coverage, Onalaska native Carson Bantle is set to transfer to Wisconsin men’s hockey in the fall semester.
Bantle spent his freshman year with Michigan Tech, where an injury limited him to 19 games, 2 goals and one assist.
Bantle says the Badgers reached out to him a few days after he put his name in the transfer portal and has now talked with every coach on Tony Granato’s staff.
Before Tech, Bantle played two years in Madison with the Capitols in the USHL, scoring 30 goals and 39 assists.
That initial taste of Madison had an impact on him.
“At the start, [the dream] was just to play Division I hockey,” Bantle said. “When I was playing in Madison, just being around that city, being around all that in Madison and being around those Badgers, it just seemed cool and something I wanted to be at.”
Bantle will join West Salem’s Jack Gorniak on the Badger roster.
The 19-year-old was a fifth round draft pick by the Arizona Coyotes in last year’s NHL Entry Draft.
