Cedar Rapids plans more building demolitions

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Cedar Rapids is continuing its effort to demolish buildings severely damaged by flooding in 2008.

The city says in a news release Tuesday that demolition contracts totaling about $358,000 have been awarded to the D.W. Zinser Company to demolish 12 residential buildings and four commercial structures.

D.W. Zinser, which is based just outside Cedar Rapids, will demolish the buildings between July 17 and Aug. 23.

So far, the city has demolished 1,111 residential buildings, 563 accessory structures and 110 commercial buildings.
