Cedar Rapids schools officials may sell building

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — The Cedar Rapids school district is moving ahead with plans to sell its former headquarters to a developer who plans to convert the building into apartments.

The Gazette reports district officials have accepted a $237,100 proposal to sell the 98-year old building to a developer pending a public hearing Monday evening.

Developer Steve Emerson wants to develop the building’s second and third floors into apartments. The first floor would be used for parking.

The building has been empty since it was damaged by flooding in 2008.

The structure was built in 1915 as Grant High School.
