Centerville plays host to national curling competition

A small Trempealeau County town is playing host to a big national event!

Centerville, just north of Trempealeau, is welcoming the U.S. Women’s Curling Association to town this weekend.

The national group is holding its 37-th annual Senior Women’s National Bonspiel at the Centerville Curling Club. 32 curling teams from around the country, each made up of women 55-years-old and older are competing in the tournament.

“If you notice, some of them have timers. They’re timing how fast the ice is. They’re very particular about their sport but they all enjoy it very much,” said Senior Women’s National Bonspiel Onsight Coordinator Sara Hein.

The Senior Women’s National Bonspiel is open to anyone who wants to watch. The event runs through about noon on Sunday.

The Senior Women’s National Bonspiel picks a different host town each year.
