Central, Blair-Taylor win final games of season

They didn’t know it at the time, but Central, Onalaska, Blair-Taylor, Bangor, and Wauzeka-Steuben were all playing their final games of the season Thursday night.

Hours before the WIAA officially canceled the rest of the winter sports seasons, Central defeated Onalaska 55-40, Blair-Taylor came back to beat Bangor 62-61, and Wauzeka-Steuben beat Potosi 53-44 in their sectional semifinal contests.

Johnny Davis led Central with 16 points and 10 rebounds in his final game as a Red Raider. Terrance Thompson and Devon Fielding also scored double figures, but it was Central’s team defense that stole the show, holding Onalaska to just 17 first half points and seemingly contesting every Hilltoppers shot attempt.

Blair-Taylor clawed back from a double-digit deficit to come up with the win over top seed Bangor. Blair-Taylor would have faced Wauzeka-Steuben on Saturday for a trip to state.
