Junior Abbillyne Mitchell died Saturday, September 4th

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)- La Crosse’s Central High School community is mourning the loss of one of its own. Junior Abbillyne Mitchell died Saturday, September 4th from injuries she sustained in a single-vehicle crash on County Road MM. According to Principal Jeff Axness, two other Central students in the vehicle were also injured.

The school made staff available on Labor Day to meet with students. In an email to families, Axness said support staff would also be available this week.

Principal Axness shared this email with students and families:

“Hello Central HS students and families,

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the sad news that Central HS Junior, Abbillyne Mitchell passed away from injuries sustained in a car accident on Saturday.

“Abbillyne’s brother, Wyatt Mitchell, is a Sophomore at Central. Sophomores, Adeline Marcou-Smart and Parker Robinson were also in the vehicle. Both Adeline and Parker suffered minor injuries and are home with their families.

“If students need a place to gather and receive support, Central High School will be open on Monday from 9:00am-1:00pm with student services staff available. Our full student services staff will be available for students the rest of the week during the school day. I have spoken with all of the impacted families and they have given me permission to share this information with the rest of our Central family.

“Please take care of yourself and those close to you.”
