UPDATE: Chauvin sentenced to 270 months — 22.5 years — Floyd’s death
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Former Minneapolis police Officer Derek Chauvin will serve 270 years — 22 and a half years — in prison for murder in the death of George Floyd.
The 45-year-old Chauvin still faces a federal trial on civil rights charges in Floyd’s death. He will receive credit for 199 days served in jail.
Also Friday, Judge Peter Cahill denied a defense request for a new trial, saying the defense hasn’t shown Chauvin was deprived of his right to a fair trial.
