Child injured after being hit by vehicle in Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Wis. (WKBT) — Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Department received a call Monday afternoon that a child had been hit by a car near Independence. 

Prisciliano Fernando-Alejo stated he was traveling south on Burrows Rd and attempted to go around a vehicle that was turning left when the child ran across the road. 

The child was transported to the Tri-County Gundersen Hospital in Whitehall and later transferred to Gundersen in La Crosse due to the seriousness of the injuries. 

Fernando was arrested on a charge of operating without a valid driver’s license, 2nd offense. 

The investigation is ongoing.
