Child killed in incident, three adults injured
One person in custody after domestic incident related to death
FITCHBURG, Wis. — Fitchburg police said one person is in custody after a domestic altercation that took the life of a child and resulted in injuries to three adults.
Lt. Chad Brecklin said that police went to the corner of Thurston Lane and Red Arrow Trail in the Allied Drive neighborhood after receiving a disconnected 911 call shortly after 1 p.m. Monday.
As police were on the way, more callers reported a child was injured in the 2100 block of Red Arrow Trail at a building in the Belmar Apartments.
When emergency crews arrived, they found three adults with injuries and a child dead in a driveway area as part of what police are only calling a “domestic incident.”
“We do have a subject in custody at this point related to this. Our detectives are speaking to that subject. At this point in time we are not looking for anyone else having direct involvement in this incident,” Brecklin said.
Brecklin said the incident appeared to be domestic and a disturbance led to the injuries.
Police said two of the adults were taken to hospitals with injuries that were not life-threatening. The third adult refused medical attention and was taken into custody by the Fitchburg Police Department.
Police identified the man taken into custody as Jesus A. Castillo-Dimas, 30. Police said he was booked into the Dane County Jail on tentative charges of first-degree intentional homicide and attempted first-degree homicide.
Officers were investigating an area around a green Ford Explorer with deployed air bags.
Neighbor Regina Lemon said she heard arguing, saw a sport utility vehicle go flying into the driveway and heard a bang. She said when she ran up to see what happened, she saw a toddler under the SUV as bystanders held the driver down next to the garage.
“I don’t believe it was an accident because of how that person drove into that parking lot; it was really fast and — boom — next thing you know he probably tried to back up because of how the kid was laying under the car,” Lemon said.
Neighbors said they are shocked and saddened at what they said was the sudden death of a toddler.
“He (the driver) flew in there at 20 mph, and I don’t understand that, why you do that going into a residence. There are a lot of kids around here,” Lemon said.
An autopsy is scheduled for the child. Police aren’t yet releasing the name, gender or age of the child pending notification of family.
