Child recovering after being struck by vehicle in La Crosse neighborhood

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)- A child is recovering after being hit by a vehicle in La Crosse. An officer told a News 8 Now photographer at the scene that the boy will be okay.
It happened around three Friday afternoon, near the intersection of West Avenue and Madison Street.
According to a witness, the boy and a friend were crossing Madison Street. The friend made it across safely. The victim was a few feet behind him, and a driver, turning onto Madison Street from West Avenue, struck the child.
Witnesses say the boy suffered some scrapes on his arm. He was reunited with his mom at the scene before being checked out at a hospital.
The driver stopped and cooperated with the police.
There are several schools in that area. Police are asking drivers to look out for kids and follow the speed limit.
