Children celebrate Kids Ice Fishing Event
GENOA, WI (WKBT) — A cold weather sport is gaining a few new fans today in the Coulee Region.
About 200 kids, ages 5 to 12, tested the waters this morning in Genoa as they tried their hand at ice fishing. Experts stopped by to provide some pro tips to the kids while they fished for rainbow trout at a stocked pond.
Organizers say they hope the event will help families make some memories this winter and enjoy the outdoors while they’re at it.
“We’re trying to get the kids and their families interested in getting outside at a time where it’s kind of tough to get outside, and to enjoy all the outdoors has to offer, and to hopefully have a great time making memories and catching some fish,” said Genoa Fish Hatchery Doug Aloisi.
The annual event is sponsored by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
