Chili cook-off warms up community while raising money

It may not be summer, but a favorite summertime organization spent Saturday afternoon warming up the community.

The Beer by Bike Bbrigade, an organization of bicyclists that stops at area bars during the summer while raising money for charity, held a chili cook-off at the Radisson hotel in La Crosse.

The event raised money for the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization as they work to purchase bikes for children in the program.

A Big Brothers Big Sisters spokesperson says the event is a bright point in the community.

“I think it just shows how great of a community that we live in and how supportive they are of making sure everyone has what they need. Not every child in our community has a bike so this is like a great event for them so hopefully they will have their own bike,” said Ashley Santolin, community relations manager for Big Brother Big Sisters.

The event has grown over the past few years with nearly one thousand people showing up Saturday.

The Radisson donated two ballrooms for today’s event along with staff to help serve the chili.
