UPDATE: Controlled burns in Blufflands area rescheduled for May 16
LA CROSSE (WKBT) – Scheduled controlled burns in La Crosse’s Blufflands area are now postponed to Monday May 16.
Previous Story:
LA CROSSE (WKBT) – Smoke may be visible from the bluffs over the next few days. Crews will be executing controlled burns in the Blufflands area of La Crosse May 12 and 13 to promote native vegetation.
Weather pending, burns will take place at the Mathy Tract/Pollinator Prairie and Upper Hixon Forrest/Thompson Pollinator Prairie areas. For safety reasons, the city asks that residents please abide by any barricades and closures. Controlled burns work by removing the layer of dead grass (“thatch”) to ensure better seed-to-soil contact for native plant establishment.
