City of La Crosse terminates lease for Municipal Boat Harbor
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — After a long legal battle, the city of La Crosse is terminating its lease with the owner of La Crosse Municipal Boat Harbor.
The harbor on Isle la Plume has had a lease agreement with the city since 1977, but fell into default in 2014, with multiple notices being issued between February of that year and June of last year.
Last August, the city filed for eviction, but the Harbor’s owner declared bankruptcy on the morning of the eviction hearing, temporarily putting it on hold.
The two sides appeared in front of a bankruptcy court judge Wednesday, who ruled the boat harbor could not continue operating while in bankruptcy. The city’s attorneys say based on that ruling, they’ll move forward with the eviction process.
The city says it will work to make sure interruptions for boaters this season remain minimal.
