City of La Crosse to begin picking up old Christmas trees Jan. 8th

With Christmas now behind us, you may be starting to think about taking some of those decorations down.

The City of La Crosse will begin picking up old Christmas trees on Monday, January 8th.

If you have a tree you want to get rid of, they ask that you put it out by 7 a.m. January 8 to make sure it gets picked up.

As always, city crews want you to make sure you take off all ornaments, lights, or tinsel before putting your tree out on the curb. Artificial trees also won’t be picked up.

Once they’re collected, the trees will be recycled.

“They’ll be ground up, turned into wood chips, and they’ll be taken to Xcel Energy plant for re-use for energy,” said city Street Supervisor and Recycling Coordinator Brandon Shea. “If some people want they can come down, and if there’s some decent chips, they can collect some for themselves as well.”

If you miss the tree collection January 8, the city says they’ll pick them up every morning through at least Friday, January 12th.
