City of Madison wants stripper painting covered

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The city of Madison has ordered the owners of a strip club to cover a racy new outdoor sign.

The Wisconsin State Journal reports that the city’s Building Inspections Division got a complaint about an 8-foot tall painting of a scantily clothed woman dancing on a pole on an outside wall at Visions Nightclub (http://bit.ly/16r6Xh6). Division director George Hank says the city’s order is not based on the content of the painting, but because businesses are not allowed to paint signs directly on buildings.

But club co-owner Dean McConley says he the business feels singled out. He says other businesses have been allowed to have murals painted on their exteriors.

McConley wouldn’t say if he’d paint over the sign.
