City officials, community members talk about Riverside North development

LA CROSSE, Wis (WKBT) — City leaders are getting some fresh ideas on the redevelopment of La Crosse’s Riverside North property.

Part of the property includes the former Mobil Oil site which sits right across the street from the Festival Foods on Copeland Avenue.

La Crosse’s Redevelopment  Authority, made up of city leaders and community members, is hosting a week long intensive planning process to get the public’s input on what to do with the historic riverfront.

It’s taken the city more than 40 years to acquire the property.

Officials say this is a unique chance for residents to be involved with the planning process. “For cities like La Crosse that can’t grow out, we have to do a good job of growing within and that’s why this project is so critical to our future. You get kind of a once in a life time opportunity to make an impact like that,” said Mayor Tim Kabat.

There is another public information session on what do to with that stretch of land scheduled for Thursday, March 27th at 7:00 p.m. at Western Technical College’s Kumm Center.
