Clara A. Westby

Clara A. (Schneuriger) Westby, 89, died on Thursday, November 11, 2021. She was born at the family farm on St. Joseph Ridge to Anton and Mary Schneuriger on September 27, 1932.

Clara moved to the Twin Cities in the late 1950s. She met Jim Westby there and they were married on January 20, 1962. They later divorced and Clara moved back to La Crosse, where she worked for a number of years as a housekeeper until her retirement. Clara was a kind, humble and peaceful woman who lived simply.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Mary Schiltz, Cecelia Brown, and Rose Blanchar; and nephews, Sam Schiltz and Gene Purcell. She is survived by her sister, Antoinette Purcell, and multiple nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be at noon Tuesday, November 16, at Oak Grove Cemetery in La Crosse. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Clara’s name may be directed to The Salvation Army of La Crosse.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mulder Health Care Facility for the care they provided to Clara over the past two years.
