Community members gather for Domestic Violence Awareness walk
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Community members are stepping out to raise awareness about domestic violence.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Tuesday night’s event at Cameron Park is just one of the events New Horizons is holding to help end domestic violence.
The group listened to local speakers and then walked together through downtown La Crosse.
Some speakers at the gathering lost family members to domestic violence.
“I think that for people who are a little less familiar with domestic violence, sometimes hearing the stories of these families or survivors can be kind of shocking, but I hope that people walk away knowing that there are resources available,” says Sierra Lyon, Development Coordinator for New Horizons Shelter and Outreach Centers.
