Conceptual design for eagle viewing area in La Crosse revealed
LA CROSSE, WI — A conceptual design is in place for people to take in the sights along the river near Interstate 90.
La Crosse’s Board of Public Works chose their preferred layout Monday night for the eagle viewing area along Hwy. 53 on the city’s north side, a hybrid between two plans.
Part of the plan includes a small parking area on the south end of the stretch, and a small feature on the north end.
Now, city officials need a final design plan that will work with the Department of Transportation’s remodel of Exit 3, and to find a way to pay for it. “People pull off to the side of the road, it’s a fairly high speed road, and people are pulling off to watch these eagles; we know there’s a safety problem now, so we’re trying to address it by creating an amenity there with a safe way for people to pull off and watch the wildlife,” said City Planner Larry Kirch.
He estimates the project will cost between $350,000 and $400,000.
