Conference brings people together to talk about child abuse

National and regional experts attended, from various professional fields

Experts from across the country are gathering in La Crosse to talk about the issue of child abuse.

The 18th annual Child Maltreatment Conference started Thursday morning at the Radisson Hotel.

A number of national and regional experts in the field of child protection are speaking at the two-day event.

The event draws people from many different industries, ranging from medical professionals to law enforcement. Social workers say having that variety at the conference is important.

“There’s a saying that it takes a village to raise a child, well it really takes a team to investigate child abuse and make sure that if a child is being injured or hurt that that is stopped,” said Mayo Health System Pediatrician Social Worker Phillip Nielsen.

The conference wraps up tomorrow afternoon.
