Controversial star in La Crescent to be lit green

A controversial cross and star will once again light the sky in La Crescent, but this time to honor our veterans.

The La Crescent city council voted Monday night to light up the star green as part of Walmart’s ‘Greenlight A Vet’ campaign.

This is after a group based out of Madison called the ‘Freedom From Religion Foundation’ asked the city to remove the iconic star, arguing it’s illegal for a city government to place religious symbols on public land.

While there is still no decision made on that case, the star will be lit this Wednesday until November 18th in honor of our veterans.
