Court proceedings delayed again for Sparta man accused of killing girlfriend

SPARTA, Wis. (WKBT) — The Sparta man accused of killing a woman still does not have an attorney.

32-year-old Shawn Hock had another initial appearance in court on Thursday and will be scheduled to have another one.

An attorney with the public defender’s office said during today’s appearance that finding available public defenders is becoming more difficult.

“This isn’t only an issue in our office, it’s becoming a state-wide issue,” said the attorney. “The pandemic caused both private bar attorneys and staff attorneys to seek other opportunities … typically this kind of case would be difficult to appoint, and it’s even more difficult now.”

Hock’s next appearance is scheduled for August 17th at 1 p.m.
