COVID-19 safety plans may differ between districts in La Crosse area

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – New COVID-19 guidance for schools from the American Academy of Pediatrics is recommending universal masking in school for everyone over the age of two.
This is a stricter position than the one taken this month by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Children under the age of 12 are not eligible for COVID-19 vaccines.
Staff with Mayo Clinic Health System says the plans won’t be the same in every school.
“I can’t speak to what the local La Crosse Public School District may do or surrounding communities, West Salem, Holmen, et cetera. But I wouldn’t be surprised if there is going to be some differences in how that plays out,” said Dr. Joseph Poterucha with Mayo Clinic Health System.
The updated guidance also recommends in-person learning.
