Crash severely injures Savage police officer

SAVAGE, Minn. (AP) — A police officer is in critical condition after his squad crashed into a tree off an icy road in Savage.

WCCO-TV reports rescue crews had to pull the door off to get the officer out after the crash happened at around 1:15 a.m. Monday.

The Minnesota State Patrol said his squad may have hit an ice patch and he couldn’t gain control.

The injured officer was flown to a local hospital.

He has been with the department for four years. His name has not been released yet.
