Crashes back up traffic on US 41
2 large pileups occur on US Highway 41 Tuesday
MADISON, Wis. — More than 20 vehicles were involved in each of two separate traffic pileups that occurred on U.S. Highway 41 in eastern Wisconsin on Tuesday.
The latest crash happened on Highway 41 northbound on the Butte des Morts causeway in Oshkosh about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday and involved more than 20 vehicles.
Lanes of U.S. 41 northbound have been reopened about 4:25 p.m. but traffic is still significantly backed up for miles in both directions.
Earlier on Tuesday in Dodge County, about 20 vehicles were involved in another crash that shut down U.S. 41 in eastern Wisconsin, according to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Todd Nehls said the crash occurred about 9 a.m. and the highway was shut down for about 2 ½ hours. One northbound lane remained open.
Both cars and semis were involved, and on both sides of the highway.
Nehls said there was poor visibility in the area and motorists were driving too fast for conditions.
Three people were taken to hospitals for treatment. There were no serious injuries.
Deputies were called in on their day off to assist with clearing the scene, according to Nehls.
