Crowdfunding boosting classroom projects in La Crosse
Support-A-School site returns
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The La Crosse Public Education Foundation has brought its Support-A-School website back.
The foundation does give traditional grants to help cover the costs of special projects, but it can’t fund every one of them.
That’s where the website comes in to boost classroom projects. Schools, teachers, staff members and Parent-Teacher organizations can apply to have their project posted on the site. Community members can make a donation through the site to support specific projects.
“Sometimes teachers are looking to buy classroom furniture or books,” says David Stoeffler, Executive Director of the La Crosse Public Education Foundation. “This just gives them an opportunity to be able to try to raise that money through donations from the public.”
Through the crowdfunding site, donations of more than $7,200 since the summer of 2016 have helped build a community walking track at Southern Bluffs Elementary, purchase equipment for the Logan High School and Digital Electronics classes, and buy an easel to be used in the outdoor garden classroom at Hamilton/SOTA I. Stoeffler also says Central students are using tools purchased with donations to build flag boxes to hold American flags, to be presented to families of veterans who have passed away.
Hintgen Elementary School currently has a project listed on the Support-A-School site. The school wants to raise money for special books kids can take home and keep.
Donations made to the Support-A-School website before April 21st will be matched up to $2,000.
