Davante Adams: ‘I’ve earned the right’ to be highest-paid WR in NFL

In his press conference following Day 1 of Packers training camp, receiver Davante Adams said his contract extension talks with the team have not gone well for months.

After a 115-catch season and a league-leading 18 touchdowns, Adams says it’s clear to him how he should be compensated.

“Wish the thing was like the NBA,” he said. “You get a max contract if you’re that guy, and it’s simple, but apparently it’s not as simple as it should be. Now we’re in a pretty tough spot.

“It’s not about being a baby, but what other profession do you take less than what you’ve earned?

“I’ve earned the right to be paid highest in the league.”

DeAndre Hopkins currently has the highest receiver salary at $27.3 million a year. Adams is in the final year of a four-year, $58 million deal. He has a base salary of over $12 million this season.
