David W. Hastings
GENOA, WI – David W. Hastings, 82, of Genoa passed away Sunday, October 17, 2021. He was born at home on November 9, 1938, the son of Ivan and Nora (Halverson) Hastings.
David graduated from De Soto High School and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. After an honorable discharge, David followed his father’s footsteps by working as a commercial fisherman on the Mississippi River, and he loved every minute of his life on the river. He also did temporary jobs with the Army Corps of Engineers and was employed by Power Service for the construction of the power plant. In his free time, David enjoyed listening to country music, playing softball and working in his garden; he liked nature and being outside.
David is survived by his brother, James Hastings; sister, Sheila (Roger) Gilman; a sister-in-law, Eunice Hastings; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his siblings: Ervin Hastings, Robert Hastings, Vera (Wally) Wang, Hilda Carson, Patricia (Florenti) Jambois, and John Wayne Halverson.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 21, at Thorson-Popp Funeral and Cremation Services in Viroqua, with Lori Kleppe officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 21, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. A graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, at Riverside Cemetery, Genoa.
