Day 8: Truck still in Lake Michigan after mudslide

OAK CREEK, Wis. (AP) — A pickup truck and other equipment that tumbled into Lake Michigan in a mudslide last week are still in the water, and will likely remain for a few more days.

The mudslide happened Oct. 31 at the We Energies power plant in the Milwaukee suburb of Oak Creek. The wave of debris also swept at least three large trailers down to the lakeshore. No one was hurt.

Utility spokesman Brian Manthey says a sheen of fuel that was visible on the water has been mostly skimmed up or absorbed by large booms.

The submerged equipment can’t be recovered until officials figure out how to build a solid base on shore where a crane can be placed. Manthey says the recovery could be done late this week or early next week.
