Dayton to host 1st Governor’s Pheasant Opener

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Gov. Mark Dayton will be in western Minnesota Saturday to host the first Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener.

Minnesota has governor’s fishing openers and deer hunting openers, but Dayton’s office says it’s the first time the governor has hosted an official pheasant hunting opener.

Saturday’s event will be held in Montevideo. Dayton plans to greet hunters and guests at Watson Hunting Camp before heading out to hunt when the season officially opens at 9 a.m.

Minnesota Congressmen Collin Peterson and John Kline, Minnesota House Speaker Kurt Zellers and other officials will join Dayton at the event.

It wraps up with a community celebration at the American Legion in Montevideo on Saturday evening.
