Dean Stern

Dean Raymond Irwin Stern, 61, of Le Roy, Minnesota, passed peacefully at his home on May 17, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.
Dean was born on January 5, 1960 in Osage IA to Mildred (Yonker) and Eugene Stern. Dean grew up in LeRoy, MN and attended LOHS where he enjoyed playing football, driving his ’78 Road Runner, working at his parents’ restaurant (M&G Drive In), and working for a local family farm. After graduating in 1978 he went to work for Hanson Tire where he managed the truck center and devoted 38 years and 9 months to the company. He made many friends and built a nationwide customer base through his precision, honesty and dedication to his work.
Dean married the love of his life, Kathryn A Brekke , on April 24 1982. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Kyle Dean, Kelsey Kathryn, and Kalvin Jacob. Dean was a devoted husband and father. He loved watching his children play sports, taking fishing trips with his family, and traveling the countryside with his wife in their convertible.
He retired in 2016 after a diagnosis of Multiple System Atrophy. After retiring, he discovered his talent for woodworking where spent many hours on the lathe making wooden bowls. Dean also used that time to achieve the status of “Best Grandpa Ever.” He was most proud of his three children and seven grandchildren.
Dean will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Kathryn and their children, Kyle (Crystal) Stern, Kelsey (Christopher) McGrane, and Kalvin (Rachel Davis) Stern along with seven beautiful grandchildren: Brody, Ryder, Madisyn and Krosby Stern; Nolan and Ivy McGrane; and Eliza Stern. Three sisters Deborah (Bruce) Diemer; Dianne Stern, Mary (Nathan) Cook, along with many nieces and nephews.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Eugene Stern.
Funeral Mass for Dean will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday May 21, 2021 at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in LeRoy with Father Marreddey Pothireddy officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 P.M. on Thursday May 20, 2021 also at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in LeRoy.
