Debra Joy Bankes

Debra Joy Bankes, age 64, of Westby, passed away unexpectedly at her home on January 17th, 2020. She was born on August 8th, 1955 to Gordon & Arlene (Rood) Rumsey in Viroqua. She attended Viroqua High School. She then married Terry Bankes and were later divorced. Together they had one son, Michael Keith Bankes. She suffered through many health challenges throughout her life, but always made the best of it. She enjoyed music, especially oldies, and classic rock and roll. She also loved spending time with her dog, and especially enjoyed spending time with her son. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her son Mike Bankes of Westby, sisters Cheryl (Richard) Rumsey-Nelson of Purcellville, VA and Lori (Robert) Amundson of Cashton; she was also survived many other nieces, nephews, family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Michael Rumsey, Patrick Rumsey, and Mark Rumsey, as well as other family and friends.

Funeral Services celebrating Debra’s life will be held on Saturday, February 1st, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Burial will follow. Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the family.
