Decorah eagle cam to shut down for season

DECORAH, Iowa (AP) — The online world will have to wait until next season to watch a famous northeast Iowa eagle family.

The Raptor Resource Project is turning off the Decorah eagle cam on Saturday. The website that allows people to watch the American bald eagle family has been viewed over 270 million times.

The nest is in a tree at the Decorah Fish Hatchery.

Raptor Resource project researcher Bob Anderson says three eaglets, born in March, are now spending less time in the nest.

He says the offseason will be used to test and install new cameras, computers and audio equipment for the 2013 nesting season. Raptor Resource will also build and install nest boxes for peregrine and kestrel falcons, and begin a kestrel program.
