Dennis Gordon Holen, age 76, of Westby, WI, passed away peacefully at Bethel Oaks Memory Care in Viroqua, WI, on Thursday, October 27, 2022. He was born on June 28, 1946, the son of Oscar and Alice (Skogstad) Holen. Dennis grew up on the family farm on Lovass Ridge near Westby, and went to Westby High School, where he played football and was president of the FFA, before

attending UW River Falls. He was baptized, confirmed, and a faithful member of the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Dennis married Judy Johnson Wallin on March 30, 1968 and was blessed with

children before later divorcing. To support his family, Dennis worked as a part of the Community Action Program and was a farm caretaker in Timber Coulee. He was also employed at Tri-State Breeders (Accelerated Genetics) for over 15 years, and at Webster Industries (Westby Moulding and Hardwood) for another 15 years. When not on the clock, Dennis liked landscaping and tending to his yard, watching the Green Bay Packers, or rummaging around at sales, collecting dolls and memorabilia, such as Elvis and Coca-Cola. There was nothing Dennis enjoyed more than spending time with his grands and great-grandkids, and he always looked forward to having breakfast with his granddaughter, Dereka, at A & W.

Dennis is survived by his children: Shelly (Eric) Ostrem, Todd (Shelly) Holen, and Terrance (Tara) Holen; six grandchildren: Morgan (Sam) Furtak, Mason Ostrem, Dereka Guzy, Dayton (Rae) Holen, Erika Holen, and Kylee Holen; two step-grandchildren: Jillisa Anderson and Donivan (Mariah) Hemmersbach; four great-grandchildren: Finley and Fallyn Furtak, and Aliyah and Harrison Guzy; a step-great-grandchild, Jayce Hemmersbach; two sisters: Margaret (Charles) Guy, and Marilynn “Lynn” (Leland) Ekum; a brother, Alton Holen; a half-sister-in-law, Helen (Al) Haugen; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his brother, Ray Holen; three half-brothers; Howard, Norman, and Orbin Holen; a half-sister-in law, Florence Holen; and a best friend, his dog Lady.

A Celebration of Dennis’ Life will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Thorson-Popp Funeral and Cremation Services in Viroqua. Thorson-Popp Funeral and Cremation Services in Viroqua is entrusted with his services.
