Deputy: Black River Falls man dies by suicide during traffic stop
TOWN OF BROCKWAY (WKBT) — A Black River Falls man died by suicide during a traffic stop, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
A Jackson County deputy stopped Robert R. Goodbear, 39, at about 10 p.m. Saturday after seeing him driving without headlights, speeding and failing to stop at a stop sign on Low Cloud Road in the town of Brockway.
The deputy called for back-up to perform roadside sobriety tests, but while they were waiting, Goodbear got out of his vehicle holding a gun. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday that Goodbear turned his gun on himself while walking toward the deputy.
The deputy called Black River Emergency Medical Services and began lifesaving measures, and Goodbear was taken to the hospital.
Goodbear died Sunday at the hospital.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
