Discussion for new Wisconsin state history museum moves to La Crosse

Wisconsin’s history could soon be on display in the state capital with a new museum, but first the discussion moved to La Crosse.

The Wisconsin Historical Society hosted a listening session in La Crosse Wednesday night.

The new museum will show off state history, but plans also include connecting all Wisconsinites with history through technology and distance learning by creating state-wide connection like with the La Crosse Public Library.

“It’s really important that we create this network and hub of history for the school kids and also learners of all ages,” said Wisconsin Historical Society Ruth & Hartley Barker Director Christian Overland.

The night’s listening session also gave people a chance to see two artifacts not often shown to the public; sketches of the Oregon Trail dating back to 1849 and a sweater worn by a Polish veterinarian who was a prisoner at the Nazi Auschwitz concentration camp in 1940.
