Disgruntled employee accused of destroying records

DE PERE, WI (AP) — A former information technology employee is accused of illegally accessing the De Pere Unified School District’s computer network and destroying records.

Thirty-year-old Jared Carlson, of Allouez, is charged with five felonies and a misdemeanor in Brown County Circuit Court. A criminal complaint says the former disgruntled employee used the log-in information from an ex-co-worker to access the network and destroy athletics records, lesson plans, term papers and other data.

District Attorney David Lasee says Carlson had “malicious intent” in destroying the records. Authorities say about 50 computer servers were wiped clean of data.

Press-Gazette Media reports the complaint says Carlson admitted he launched an “attack” on the system after he did not receive a year’s pay as part of his severance after losing his job.
