DNR urges trick-or-treaters to go green

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — State environmental officials are urging trick-or-treaters to go green this year.

Department of Natural Resources officials say Halloween can generate plenty of unwelcome trash. The agency suggests using reusable bags such as cloth or canvas bags or even pillowcases and making costumes from old clothes and household items rather than buying new costumes that will end getting thrown out after a single use.

DNR officials also recommend adding jack-o-lanterns to compost bins, walking rather than driving during trick-or-treating and disposing of candy wrappers properly.
