DNR: Watch out for open water up north
BARRON, Wis. (AP) — The state Department of Natural Resources is warning snowmobilers and anglers to watch out for open water in northwestern Wisconsin.
The agency says aeration systems are causing open water on more than two dozen lakes across Barron, Burnett, Polk and Washburn counties. The systems are designed to sustain aquatic life.
The DNR says state law requires the open areas to be clearly marked and cordoned off with fences, but people should still be careful.
