Dozens show up to “Walk With A Doc” at Riverside Park
The walk highlighted new North Bank Trail cossing on Copeland Ave.
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — A new trail crossing got a workout Saturday morning as dozens gather to Walk with a Doc in Riverside Park.
Doctors from Gundersen and Mayo Clinic Health Systems met at Riverside Park Saturday morning to show the public a new North Bank Trail crossing on Copeland Avenue.
The Wisconsin Bike Fed organized the 2 mile or 3.25 mile walk. It’s one way to encourage walking for exercise while reminding motorists to yield to pedestrians.
“The city has put in a new safe crossing where people can just press a button, lights start flashing and it alerts people driving to yield to people who are trying to cross. So we want people to yield to people in marked and unmarked crosswalks and this is a great opportunity to bring all these ideas together,” said Carolyn Dvorak, Southwest Region Director for WI Bike Fed.
The Walk With A Doc event is based on a national program.
