Dragon Boat Festival to feature more than 50 teams in La Crosse

Proceeds go to local breast cancer programs

A team-based competition in colorful boats returns to La Crosse this summer.

The 5th annual Big Blue Dragon Boat Festival will be hosted next month at La Crosse’s Copeland Park. The Mayo Clinic Health System hosts the annual event to celebrate and support local breast cancer patients, survivors and caregivers.

The race features more than 50 teams paddling through a three hundred meter course on the Black River in colorful, Hong Kong-style dragon boats.

“It’s important because all of the funds that are raised from the event stays local, and it goes towards advancing our services at Mayo Clinic Health System here in La Crosse,” said Mayo Clinic Health System’s Heidi Odegaard.

The free, two-day event includes music, family activities, food, and of course the dragon boat races.
